The Tipping Point: The Great Unraveling of ‘Peak Woke’

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM SYDNEY

Are we finally witnessing the curtain call on the “peak woke” era? For over a decade, we’ve been drowning in acronyms like DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion), BLM (Black Lives Matter), and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance). They’ve served more as corporate buzzwords for “look how ethical we are!” rather than genuine catalysts for change. But guess what? The tide is turning, and it’s turning fast.

In the US, the shift is as unmistakable as a neon sign in Las Vegas. Companies are quietly stepping back from their once-loud activism. Google, for instance, has seemingly dialed back on its diversity training, perhaps realizing that running a business might be a tad more important than virtue signaling. DEI departments? They’re not just slimming down; they’re getting a complete makeover or, in some cases, being sent to corporate heaven. ESG goals? They’re under scrutiny, with companies wondering if they’re actually effective or just window dressing. And Scope emissions? Well, they’re being subtly swept under the rug as profit becomes the new green. Oh, how quickly the corporate activists forget when the going gets tough! Where have all the CEOs who were once bending the knee and their holier-than-thou entourages gone? Still here, but now they’re acting like nothing’s changed. Nothing to see here, move along…

Canada, with its maple syrup charm, is a bit behind but catching up. With an election on the horizon, the push for diversity quotas is met with a collective eye-roll, especially when people are more concerned about making ends meet than ticking boxes on a diversity checklist. And let’s not forget the Indigenous debacle after the revelation that the mass grave of First Nations children was a hoax. The guilt trip peddled by the well-intentioned elite was based on a lie, and the silence on this matter has been deafening.

The UK and Australia are at a crossroads. In the UK, the grooming gangs scandal has everyone’s blood boiling, revealing how political correctness can be the adversary of justice. Thousands of victims overlooked due to the fear of appearing racist. Now, there’s a clamor for accountability from those in power who turned a blind eye. Navigating this will be a minefield.

It’s high time we embraced some good old-fashioned common sense. We need policies that foster true equality, not just social media accolades. Here’s the rundown:

- Corporate Retreat : Remember Bud Light’s Dylan Mulvaney fiasco? It resulted in a 25% drop in market share — a harsh lesson that perhaps companies should stick to selling beer, not social messages.

- Educational Overhaul: Universities are beginning to question if DEI is about real change or just looking good, with institutions like Harvard under scrutiny. This might just be the start of an academic revolution.

- Political Backlash: In the UK, Suella Braverman’s critique of inherent bias assumptions offers a refreshing perspective. It’s time for a “color blind” approach. Ah, for the French method, where ethnicity isn’t even on the census.

We’re at a tipping point, people. Will we opt for clarity, accountability, and authenticity, or will we watch the pendulum swing from one extreme to another? With environmental commitments being sidelined and Indigenous policies under review, it seems we’re leaning towards a more pragmatic approach.

Don’t get me wrong; these are all crucial issues. Call me old-fashioned, but I believe actions shout louder than words. I’d give more credit to someone who volunteers time and resources for a good cause, like integrating disabled colleagues, over an activist who’s all talk and no action.

What’s your take? Are you seeing this shift in your own backyard or workplace? Are we moving towards a balanced, sensible future, or are new challenges brewing in the wake of “peak woke”? Sound off in the comments, and let’s shape the conversation that could define our future.

What an interesting time to be alive, right?
